Women Leading with the Land is a transformative project that invites women of African & Caribbean Heritage to learn and develop skills in land care, food growing and enterprise. Training melanin rich women to become Soil SiStars, to grow each other and food with love.

We offer seasonal in person and virtual learning Afroecological land training and wellbeing workshops.

We nurture and train melanin rich women to become Soil SiStars, honouring ancestral knowledge, valuing traditional practices and growing both each other and food with love.

Women Leading with the Land is a seasonal land programme is an introduction to Afro ecology and Cultural Horticultural Skills.

  • Learn about different soil types and how to prepare the land for cultivation
  • Test soil pH and identify essential nutrients for healthy plant growth
  • Explore different cultural families, companion planting and crop rotation
  • Practice seed sowing, direct sow, sow seeds in trays and create a planting schedule
  • Discover local weeds and uncover their traditional and ecological benefits
  • Connect with the natural environment and Enterprise

I completed the 6 week Women Leading with the Land course with Go Grow With Love in 2022. We were taught about the different types of soil and what plants benefit from them all, various tools used to prepare the land before planting, what minerals are needed at the different stages of the plant, the healing benefits of different herbs and much more. There is a lot of diversity on the course and the volunteering days which is great for new and seasoned growers. It is a beautiful community of women who come to learn skills and have nourishing conversations at the same time.
